This morning I woke up super early because it was town day! I was up at 6 am and started hiking around 6:45 am. I was eager to get to town and eat, eat, eat. I don’t know about you, but after 4 days of hiking I’m starving and will do a lot to get to town as early as possible. And that’s just what was  on my mind – hot town food.

I probably should have enjoyed the hike a bit more, but that’s all I could think about until about 9 am when the morning sun was fully shining. By this time the air was a bit warmer and I could admire the rhododendron blooms, appreciate the easy incline of the trail, and be grateful for dry air. It was a good morning afterall.

I passed a few hikers, one day hiker and a couple of section hikers, and made my way down my final large descent of the day. At one point, I went through a field and found a couple of cows – can you spot them?

The sun on my skin felt so good for those few moments I was out of the green tunnel. Before I knew it, I crossed a road and a bridge and arrived at my destination. It was 11:30 am.

I waited a bit for my ride, bereft of cell service. After 30 minutes, I backtracked a bit to get to higher elevation, but still couldn’t get service. I just had to wait.

An hour and change after I arrived at the road, my ride arrived and I was off to town. First stop, The Wooden Pickle in Marion, VA. I had a burger with pineapple on it and it was delicious! The plate was completely empty when I left the building.

Back at our spot in town, I took a shower, relaxed for a bit, and then promptly fell asleep for a much needed nap. Tomorrow means back on trail, so let’s hope Janitor’s ankle feels better and he can join me.

And that’s day 58.
