Trail Updates

Today was another day of milestones. I crossed the Mason-Dixon line! But first, I had to start hiking.

I woke up today with no urgency. I’d had a good night’s rest due to my handy-dandy ear plugs and I woke up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.

Today was both a happy day and a sad day. On one hand, I was getting back on trail and starting the second half of my thru hike.

To celebrate making it (almost) halfway, Janitor and I took a double zero in Harper’s Ferry. Plus, a sad event was on the horizon.

This morning I woke up excited for the day ahead – Harpers Ferry day! Harpers Ferry is the psychological halfway point on the Appalachian Trail, meaning I was basically going to be done with the first half of my hike. Crazy!

This morning I woke up to a beautiful sunrise already in progress. The clouds were thrown across the sky and backlit colors played amongst them.

Back on trail and it’s another scorcher! Janitor didn’t join me on trail today, so we just had breakfast and said our goodbyes at the hotel. 

Today was a short day into town – yay! I woke up to clear skies and gathered my things so I could start my day. I only had a short climb to Compton Peak where there was (surprise!) no view, and then continued on a mostly flat and downhill trail for the rest of the day.

I woke up to a dry morning today and was very grateful. The clouds from last night had looked a bit threatening, but they only deposited their water in the early evening, leaving my tent dry.

July 4th! Today I was hoping to see fireworks on top of a mountain, but that didn’t quite happen. I didn’t feel the greatest when I woke up this morning.
